Iman Chimuly’s Continued Education
“My dream is to save people’s lives, particularly those in low economic situations. As a social worker, I ensure that the well-being of the client is preserved and that they can receive the treatment they need, regardless of their financial situation.”
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are pleased to share that PSCTP can continue funding Iman Chimuly through the final three years of his social work program, ensuring he can graduate and provide vital services to his community.
Iman began his social work program in late 2022, building on his previous experience as a Physician’s Assistant* in Community Health, where he assessed and educated individuals about non-communicable diseases. During his work as a PA, he saw firsthand the gap between patients receiving diagnoses and accessing the care they needed—highlighting the critical role social workers play in bridging that divide.
Throughout his program, Iman has participated in clinical rotations in addition to his academic studies. These rotations took place in small, rural villages, focusing on youth engagement through education on micro-businesses and entrepreneurship as a means of addressing youth unemployment.
PSCTP also provided funding for Iman to attend two conferences related to his field of study: one focused on primary healthcare, and the other on policy implementation to reduce non-communicable diseases in local communities.
Iman is uniquely poised to make a difference in the delivery of coordinated healthcare to his community, as he combines his background in medicine with expertise in social work. With his bachelor’s degree in social work, Iman hopes to make a lasting impact on how healthcare is delivered in his country.
*Iman’s official title was “Clinical Officer,” which is equivalent to a Physician Assistant in the USA.
